Behind the notes:
Kings of the night
“Kings of the Night” is a very special song in my musical journey. It holds the distinction of being the first song I wrote for this project, back when it was still known as The Golden Hour. It’s quite ironic that this song became the canvas for me to apply the techniques I was learning during my sound engineering degree. It was a time of growth and exploration, and “Kings of the Night” provided me with a platform to experiment and bring my ideas to life.
Throughout the creative process, “Kings of the Night” went through various versions, each one capturing different aspects of my vision. However, there is one particular rendition that stands out to me. It holds a nostalgic quality that takes me back to those early moments of inspiration and creative exploration. I’ve decided to release it as a Reprised version, honoring its origins and embracing the essence of those initial creative sparks.
The song itself embodies a sense of living within a cycle, where time passes and emotions ebb and flow. It reflects on the fears and hopes that occupy our minds and burden our souls. It’s a contemplation of whether we’re merely dreaming or losing control. But amidst the uncertainty, there is an invitation to seize the moment, to break free from the chains that bind us, and to embrace the call of the night.
“We’re not giving in, yeah! Not tonight,” the lyrics defiantly declare. It’s a declaration of resilience and determination, a refusal to succumb to limitations. The song encourages us to dance in the rain, howl at the sky, and revel in the freedom that comes with defying expectations. It’s a reminder that true freedom means never truly dying, that we can exist in a state of boundless possibilities.
As the song unfolds, it delves into the transformative power of self-discovery. It speaks of shedding the old versions of ourselves, stepping out of our comfort zones, and seeking new horizons. It’s a testament to the importance of embracing change and the promise of a new beginning. The lyrics remind us to seize the present, to greet the stars and embrace the unknown without fear.
“Kings of the Night” encapsulates the spirit of my journey as a musician and sound engineer. It symbolizes growth, exploration, and the pursuit of artistic expression. The forthcoming Reprised version will not only showcase the song’s evolution but also evoke the emotions and memories associated with its inception. It’s a special song that represents a significant milestone in my musical path.
