Behind the notes:
Postcard Summer
The opening track of the album, titled “Eyes Wide Open,” sets the tone for the entire musical journey. It is a profound instrumental composition that carries a significant message about recognizing and appreciating our surroundings.
“Eyes Wide Open” serves as a reminder to be mindful of each moment and to embrace the complexities of life. It invites us to appreciate the beauty that exists even in the midst of challenges and hardships. Whether it’s witnessing a breathtaking sunset, embarking on new experiences, or simply cherishing the time spent with loved ones, this track encapsulates the essence of finding joy and gratitude in the present.
“Postcard Summer” is my way of capturing an image of an idealized time, akin to a perfect, picturesque scene on a postcard. The lines where I reminisce about playing my guitar, while looking into the eyes of my beloved, are tributes to our shared intimate moments. And when I speak of ‘Hiding in the Postcard Summer,’ it mirrors our shared desire to escape our realities and retreat into our shared idyllic past.
In the song, I express a profound sense of displacement with the line ‘Why can’t I feel like I belong?’ This reflects the feelings of alienation or lack of purpose that I grapple with in the present, making my longing for the ‘Postcard Summer’ even more poignant.
My recurring refrain, ‘I still dream,’ underlines the intense nostalgia and longing for the past. This song also charts my journey of personal growth, from the perspective of a boy who used to ‘roam and wander,’ only to realize that he ‘was never lost at all.’ This is my way of accepting my journey, recognizing that even though it seemed aimless at times, it was an integral part of my path of self-discovery and growth.
The line ‘If I could turn back time, I wouldn’t change a thing, so I’d still be yours and you’d still be mine’ is my way of expressing unchanging affection towards my beloved and our shared past, despite the passage of time and the inevitable changes it brings.
In its very essence, “Postcard Summer” is my melancholic, yet beautiful journey back to a time of young love, personal freedom, and vibrant self-discovery. It serves as a haunting tribute to a formative period in my life that continues to shape me and influence who I am today.
